Practical Steps to Build a Parallel Green Catalog
Your buyer asks: “Do you have a greener version of this product?” It’s a common question—and an opportunity. Offering low-carbon variants of existing SKUs allows you to serve clients with ESG mandates without reinventing your supply chain overnight.
But it requires planning, data alignment, and a smart sourcing approach.
Step 1: Identify Candidate Products
Start with high-volume SKUs that:
Have alternate suppliers with EPDs or cleaner firing processes
Offer recycled-content or low-cement alternatives
Are available regionally to reduce freight emissions
Good examples:
Float glass with cullet from domestic plants
Ceramic tiles made with biomass-fired kilns
Refractory bricks with slag-based aggregate
Step 2: Tag and Separate in Your Catalog
Use your ERP to flag “low-carbon variant available.” Create side-by-side spec sheets showing:
CO₂e per unit
Recycled content
Certifications (EPD, GREENGUARD, LEED credits)
Step 3: Train Your Sales Team
Make sure reps can:
Explain why the variant has a lower footprint
Address pricing or lead time differences
Position the variant as a compliance enabler, not just a product swap
This approach helps you retain margin, upsell smarter, and differentiate in ESG-driven bids.
