What Is Heat-Toughened Glass?

Terminals are high-traffic, high-risk environments. Heat-toughened glass resists accidental impact from luggage, carts, and even aggressive cleaning equipment. It also deters vandalism, with breakage occurring in small, blunt pieces that reduce injury risk.

Thermal Resistance and Weather Compatibility

Toughened glass withstands rapid temperature fluctuations, making it ideal for exterior-facing façades in cold-climate cities like Toronto, Montreal, or Chicago. It resists thermal shock from direct sunlight or HVAC discharge.

Acoustic and Energy Performance

When combined with interlayers in laminated IGUs, toughened glass contributes to sound attenuation and meets energy code standards for envelope performance. It’s used in skylights, elevator lobbies, and waiting areas to control both light and sound.

Emergency Egress and Safety Codes

Toughened glass complies with ANSI Z97.1, CPSC 16 CFR 1201, and CAN/CGSB-12.1 standards. It’s required in areas adjacent to walking paths, doorways, and low windows where human contact risk is high.

Available in bent, printed, fritted, and digitally etched formats, heat-toughened glass enables architects to combine structural safety with visual branding and wayfinding—without compromising code.
