From Eye-Rolls to Escalations: How Blame Games Plays Out in Real Jobs

By Glazix | June 6, 2025

“Not our fault” might be true. But when the field hears it too often, the relationship is already breaking.

Blame games don’t show up in contracts—but they’re a constant undercurrent on job sites. When something goes wrong and every vendor points elsewhere, the PM is left to clean up the mess. Worse, they log the vendors who showed up—and those who passed the buck.

Where blame becomes escalation:

Install stalls due to conflicting drawings—vendor says, “we just shipped what was approved”

Cure failure due to weather—supplier says, “that’s a field condition”

Glass panels don’t align—vendor says, “talk to the installer”

What PMs say in the project debrief:

“We had to fix it ourselves.”

“They were quick to point fingers, but not to help.”

“They made us look bad in front of the GC.”

Vendors that stay on preferred lists:

Document field-side impact, not just technical compliance

Offer workarounds instead of waiting for blame resolution

Assign a field-ready contact who owns the fix—even if it wasn’t their fault

Field crews don’t want apologies. They want partners who help when things break.
