The Incident: Incorrect Interlayer in Hurricane Zone
A distributor selected a standard PVB interlayer for laminated units intended for a municipal building in a coastal city. Despite performance requests hinting at hurricane zone compliance, the distributor did not confirm the exact wind-load requirements or impact ratings.
After installation, the units failed third-party impact testing required for final building inspection. All laminated panels had to be removed and replaced with SGP-laminated glass—delaying occupancy by 21 days.
