Blame Games: The Project Manager Frustration No One Puts in the RFP

By Glazix | June 6, 2025

When something goes wrong, who takes the hit? If it’s always “not us,” you’re not getting the next job.

Mistakes happen in every project. But when vendors deflect, deny, or dodge ownership, they create a reputation risk that costs far more than the immediate issue.

Where blame shows up:

“It was the installer’s fault—they used the wrong anchor.”

“The drawing wasn’t clear—we just shipped to spec.”

“That was a change order issue—not our responsibility.”

PMs aren’t looking for perfection. They’re looking for partners who solve problems—not create friction.

What PMs actually log:

“They passed the buck instead of fixing it.”

“We had to coordinate the fix ourselves.”

“No ownership. No field help. No future business.”

Distributors who build loyalty:

Step into field issues—even if they didn’t originate with you

Offer fix-first, analyze-later responses during install pressure

Document how you helped—not just how you “weren’t at fault”

You don’t have to take the blame. But you do have to be present when the project’s under pressure. That’s what PMs remember.
