Blame Games: The Timeline Disruptor No One Puts in the RFP

By Glazix | June 6, 2025

The spec got missed. The board cracked. And now three vendors are writing cover-your-back emails.

Blame isn’t about the failure—it’s about the fallout. When timelines slip and something goes wrong, PMs expect solutions. What they get instead—finger-pointing—wastes time, torches trust, and leaves the real problem unresolved.

You’ll hear it around the job trailer:

“We shipped what was ordered.”

“The sub didn’t read the revised layout.”

“That wasn’t our scope—talk to the GC.”

Distributors who lead under stress take control of the narrative:

“Let’s walk it back—here’s what changed, when, and who touched it.”

“We’ll help coordinate the fix and document what happened.”

“This install doesn’t match our guidance. We’ll flag the gap and help course correct.”

PMs don’t expect perfection. But they demand accountability. If you’re first to solve, you rarely get blamed. If you’re first to deflect, you rarely get invited back.
