Components of a Strong SKU Index

SKU Root Family: E.g., GL-CLR, CER-ALU, REF-IFB

Dimension Schema: Always use the same unit and order (e.g., LxWxT in mm or inches)

Material Spec: Include key traits (alumina % for ceramics, U-value for glass, max service temp for refractories)

Finish/Surface Code: Polished, glazed, etched, coated

Application Tag: Kiln shelf, thermal barrier, facade glazing, etc.

Supplier Cross-Reference: Map to vendor part numbers and legacy IDs

Price Tier or Margin Class: Optional, but useful for fast margin analysis

Once built, house the index in a shared cloud system—whether a searchable Excel workbook, ERP module, or custom database—with access controlled by role.
