Coaching Sales Reps on Post-Delivery Follow-Through

By Glazix | May 30, 2025

The job isn’t done when the truck leaves. The most valuable insights—and the most trust—happen after delivery.

In technical distribution, reps are often trained to win the quote. Maybe even to close the PO. But too many sales teams treat the actual delivery as the end of their involvement.

That’s a missed opportunity.

Post-delivery follow-through is where the best reps differentiate—because that’s when issues surface, risks appear, and customer sentiment crystallizes.

Train your sales team to treat delivery as the midpoint—not the finish line.

Why Follow-Through Matters in Glass and Refractory Sales

Delivery mistakes (wrong site, missing labels, damage) rarely show up in CRMs—but buyers remember them

End users (installers, engineers) provide insights that influence future specs

Proactive check-ins make reorders easier and smoother

Your rep may not be driving the truck—but they’re still responsible for the buyer’s experience.

The 3-Part Follow-Through Framework

1. Confirm It Landed Smoothly

Day after delivery:

“Just checking—did everything arrive as expected for the South Tower project? Any feedback from your crew or the site lead?”

Simple. Fast. But powerful.

2. Translate the Feedback Into Action

If they mention:

Staging confusion → flag for ops

Labeling issues → revise SOPs

Reorder need → initiate quote early

Don’t just log the call. Use it to improve.

3. Use the Moment to Earn the Next Job

If the install went well:

“Glad to hear it landed cleanly. What’s next on your radar? Want to get a jump on quotes for that Midtown job?”

Happy buyers are easiest to close—when you show them you still care.

What Sales Leaders Should Reinforce

Delivery follow-up is not just a CSR task

CRM activity should include post-ship touchpoints

Great follow-through shortens the quote-to-close cycle on future jobs

Make it part of your comp model if needed. Follow-through pays off—just not always on the same job.

Sales reps who follow through build relationships, not just pipelines. In glass and refractory supply, delivery is the moment where your company’s promises meet reality. If your reps show up then, they’ll be remembered when the next spec gets written.
