Start with the Audience
Who’s using this dashboard? Maintenance? Line leads? Executives? Each group needs a different level of granularity. For example:
Operators: Real-time alerts and next-step prompts
Maintenance teams: Root cause history and time-to-repair metrics
Management: Downtime trends, OEE, and cost impact
Build layers into the dashboard with permissions and filters.
Key Metrics to Include
Downtime by Cause
Break it down: mechanical, electrical, material, operator error, etc. This data drives your CI priorities.
Time to Response vs Time to Repair
Knowing when a fault was reported and when it was fixed shows where communication or resources lag.
Repeat Downtime Events
If the same motor fails three times a month, you have a reliability issue. This needs to be surfaced, not buried.
Downtime by Asset
Helps you spot chronic offenders and support CapEx planning with evidence.
Downtime by Shift or Crew
Reveals training gaps or staffing-related issues.
Visual Clarity Matters
Don’t overload users with data. Use:
Color-coding for severity
Trend lines for recurrence

Drill-downs for root cause analysis
