Use the submittal process as a quality checkpoint, not just a paperwork exercise. Confirm coatings, finishes, and tolerances with both the fabricator and the buyer. Don’t assume approval means understanding.
Provide physical samples when there’s visual risk. Ceramic finishes, bird-safe glass, etched patterns — these all benefit from real-world review. The GC doesn’t want to swap product midstream because the architect expected a different opacity.
Confirm inspection protocols before the first drop. If install crews are checking edgework or checking for film defects under specific lighting, your prep and packaging should match.
Document and tag materials clearly. If a glazing unit is rejected because the label doesn’t match the submittal — even if the product is right — you’ve just lost credibility.
Glass distributors who invest in QA/QC alignment earn more than approvals — they earn trust. And when things do go wrong (because even the best shops make mistakes), you’re in a much stronger position if your documentation is airtight and your process is transparent.
