How to Fix Vendor Reliability Before It Ends Up in the PM’s Post-Mortem

By Glazix | June 6, 2025

It’s not what you shipped. It’s how long it took the PM to get a call back.

Reliability isn’t measured in price or product—it’s measured in who shows up when something breaks. When the wrong box lands, the drawing doesn’t match, or the weather compromises a thermal ramp-up—PMs log who answered the phone.

Where vendor reliability breaks down:

Field crew discovers install issue—no live response

QA needs reissue of traceability docs—waits 36 hours

Closeout materials requested—silence for three days

At that point, the product is irrelevant. It’s the gap in response that sticks.

Distributors who maintain reliability in the field:

Use a single point-of-contact model with cell availability

Return calls/emails in 2 hours—even just to confirm it’s being handled

Create a documented handoff protocol between sales, logistics, and field support

PMs don’t need hand-holding—they need presence. If they’re chasing you to close their loop, you’re already losing the next project.
