When Forklifts, Glass Crates, and Crews Collide—Nobody Wins
Glass installations are spatially sensitive. If staging racks block swing stages or if anchor hardware is stored on the wrong floor, your site becomes a maze. Job site layout planning is the coordination skill most overlooked by distributors—and most valued by foremen.
Layout Planning Is Logistics, Not Just Drawing Review
Before glass hits the site, your layout team should coordinate:
Where each material will land
How crews access stored materials
Whether there’s vertical transport like freight lifts or hoists
Safety lanes for forklift or boom use
Co-Plan With the GC and Install Contractor
Push for a joint layout walk-through. Bring tape, floor plans, and your crate dimensions. Discuss delivery sequence and clarify who’s responsible for staging repositions if cranes or other trades interfere.
Think 3D, Not Just Floorplan
Glass requires vertical access. If your material is stuck on level 1 and the job needs it on level 6 by noon, you’ve lost the day. Include vertical move planning—especially for high-rise curtain wall or skylight installs.
