Most materials plants today run some form of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). Many also have MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) for shop floor control. But without true layered integration, you’re left with fragmented visibility—and a lot of Excel.

MES picks up the work order, assigns it to a kiln, and monitors real-time data like soak time, airflow, and temperature. If something goes wrong—say, a soak temp deviation—the MES logs it and flags the ERP to delay shipment.
Inventory is adjusted automatically based on good vs. rejected parts. Reorders are triggered as needed. At no point is a person required to move data manually.
The key to this seamless flow is middleware or APIs that connect MES events with ERP transactions. Don’t try to shoehorn one system into the other—let each do what it does best, but ensure they talk.
