Unusual tolerances that require special handling

Inconsistencies between floor plans and elevation drawings

By surfacing these before PO release, you create friction at exactly the right moment—when changes are still possible. You also signal to the GC and project team that you’re not a pass-through vendor. You’re a collaborator in risk prevention.

Offering Value-Add Constraints

Scope creep thrives in ambiguity. Smart distributors fight back by providing clearly communicated constraints:

“This spec requires 8-week lead time; no changes after fabrication.”

“Re-sequencing glass delivery adds 12% to freight cost due to partial loads.”

“IGUs wider than 96 inches require site crane coordination.”

By putting these parameters in front of the team early, you create healthy pressure to lock in specs. And you elevate your standing from vendor to project partner.
