You won the bid. The product is in production. But before the first crate rolls to site, there’s one step that separates strong starts from early rework: the pre-job walkthrough.
Pre-job walkthroughs are where experienced distributors gain critical insight into:
Real-world site access and staging constraints
The field team’s install strategy
Equipment placement and safety zones
Clarification of delivery timing and sequence
And while they’re rarely required, they’re always remembered.
Here’s how to make this walkthrough count:
Show up with questions. Ask how the field crew wants the glass or panels staged. Confirm who’s responsible for offload, and where backup hardware should be stored.
Bring a delivery drop plan. Show your proposed crate zones and ask for feedback. Don’t assume your logic matches the install rhythm.
Spot potential choke points. Is the hoist booked by another trade? Will the elevator be available? Are you crossing paths with concrete crews?
Confirm drawing versions and labeling preferences. If the crew is working from their own legend, match it — or at least make yours translatable.
Buyers respect vendors who act like partners. When you show up before Day One with a clear intent to coordinate, you’re seen not just as a supplier — but as a contributor to jobsite flow.
Walkthroughs don’t add to your margin, but they protect it. And in a reputation-driven industry, that’s what keeps your name on the next scope package.
