Top Buyer Concerns: Technical Support in Industrial Sourcing Decisions

By Glazix | June 6, 2025

A spec sheet doesn’t help you if no one will walk you through it.

In the world of industrial sourcing, buyers need more than SKUs—they need subject matter expertise. For complex materials like boron nitride, heat-soaked tempered glass, or zirconia tubes, a misapplied product can lead to structural failure, safety risks, or regulatory noncompliance.

That’s why technical support has moved to the top of the buyer’s priority list.

OEMs often offer engineering teams—but not always accessibly or quickly. Distributors that invest in application engineers, technical sales reps, or even knowledgeable account managers become more than a product source. They become part of the design and problem-solving process.

In one example, a battery plant in Ontario needed a solution for high-temp acid gas exposure. Their in-house team spec’d a standard ceramic fiber. The distributor flagged chemical incompatibility, recommended a different composite, and helped modify the order before delivery.

What buyers expect now:

Pre-sale technical guidance (not post-failure corrections)

Material compatibility support

Help understanding changes in industry standards and regulations

Distributors who know their products—and the environments they’re used in—become strategic partners in risk reduction and performance.
