The RFP said “4-week turnaround.” The install team says, “we needed six—and now we’re toast.”
Timelines in industrial specs often reflect ideal conditions, not jobsite reality. But when those deadlines hit boots-on-ground crews with unforgiving thermal ramp-ups or tight install sequencing, something has to give. Usually? Quality, morale, or margin.
Field-level feedback reveals:
Material cure times ignored during schedule drafting
Multi-trade conflicts baked into install windows
Unacknowledged float that evaporates the first week
What PMs want—but rarely get—is supplier honesty early.
Great distributors:
Flag time compression risks during precon
Offer phased delivery options to preserve labor pacing
Include cure rate and ramp-up allowances in quotes, not fine print
When timelines go sideways, PMs don’t blame the owner. They remember who helped them buy time—and who pretended they had it.
