The biggest risk isn’t the one that’s documented. It’s the one nobody wants to talk about.
Project managers know the spec only tells half the story. What trips up execution is the unspoken assumption—the “we thought you had it” moment between procurement, site leads, and vendors.
Blindspots PMs cite:
Material behavior under conditions no one modeled (moisture, vibration, overfire)
Trade overlaps no one reconciled (e.g., refractory drying vs. electrical pre-checks)
Adjacent systems tolerances not validated (sealants, anchors, frame flex)
And when those gaps blow up? Everyone blames the other side.
Distributors who neutralize blindspots:
Pre-check specs for system fit, not just SKU accuracy
Offer install simulations or field walkthroughs for sequence planning
Include material behavioral caveats—not just performance claims
Risk can’t always be removed. But it can be flagged, framed, and managed—and PMs never forget the vendor who saw the hit coming and said something.
